Smart India Hackathon 2020
Chitkara University is proud to be hosting the Smart India Hackathon -2020 as the nodal centre for Software Edition. The University is one of the 39 nodal centres, selected by MHRD’s Innovation cell from all across India. The University and its students also attended the nation-wide virtual conference, which was addressed by PM Shri Narendra Modi ji.
On day 1, in the exclusive opening session, Dr Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University emphasized on the need of innovation and also informed the audience about the recently concluded hackathon – NOVATE +2020, where the University sponsored prizes and funding worth INR 1Cr. The chief guest of the ceremony was Mr Rama Iyer, Chief Innovation officer – T-Hub, Hyderabad. He enlightened the participants about the evolving entrepreneurship culture in India and its benefits for the society. Mr CP Kulkarni, Associate Director/ Scientist G at Directorate of IT & Cyber Security, DRDO HQ Delhi also addressed the participants and cleared the expectations from the competing teams.
Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving. This year, student participants, SIH coordinators and industry evaluators are coming together on a digital platform designed to facilitate seamless implementation of the event and is being managed centrally by MHRD’s Innovation Cell & All India Council for Technical Education.
At Chitkara University nodal centre 25 teams having 150 participants are competing for 5 problem statements given by Department of IT & Cyber Security, DRDO. Each Problem statement has a winning amount of Rs 1 lakh.
Day 1 and Day 2 had several mentoring session and jury rounds of the solutions being developed by the teams. Day 2 concluded with the talk by Dr Sachin Ahuja, Director, Research, Chitkara University on transforming Innovations into Patents.
