Raj Rani, PhD scholar, Centre for Life Sciences, Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics Division, was one of the selected participants for a ten-day workshop organized by IIT Delhi to train professionals in the field of Bioinformatics and create a pool of Bioinformaticians across India. IIT Delhi holds the supercomputing facility of 1.5 Tera Scale to establish a nodal facility for supercomputing, accessible to the Biomedical scientist working in the field of Bioinformatics. The workshop gave hands-on training of learning novel scientific methods for drug designing and taught various new software for genome analysis, AB initio protein structure prediction and active site-directed drug design. The Supercomputing Facility for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (SCFBio) was created in July 2002, with the funding from Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and IIT Delhi, under the guidance of Principal Investigator: Prof: B. Jayaram, Department of Chemistry.
