The present disclosure provides a system (100) and method for recognition andevaluation of handwritten mathematical text, the text comprising any or acombination of alphanumeric characters and mathematical operators. The system(100) includes a scanning device (102), configured to scan a physical documentcontaining handwritten mathematical text and a display unit (106) configured to10 display one or more output signals generated by a processing unit (104). Theprocessing unit (104) is configured to receive a set of digital images pertainingto the handwritten mathematical text from the scanning device (102), perform aset of operations on the digital image and recognize a set of characters containedin the digital image. A user is enabled to validate the set of characters and rescan15 the document if necessary, in response to a first set of output signals. Afterrecognition and validation, the processing unit (104) is configured to evaluatethe text and generate a second set of output signals after authenticating the user.
