Expert Areas : Synthetic Organic and Medicinal Chemistry, in silico Drug Design of NCEs: Antidiabetics (Insulin Sensitizers), Antihypertensives (Centrally Acting) and Antiasthmatics (Eosinophil Inhibition)

Dr. Raman Kumar Verma completed his MSc, MPhil and PhD from Punjabi University, Patiala, in the years 1981, 1984 and 1987, respectively. He then joined as a faculty member at Department of Chemistry, M M Modi College, Patiala. In 1997, he was appointed as a faculty member at Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala. In 2002, Dr. Raman joined Department of Chemistry, Punjabi University, where he was promoted to the positions of Associate Professor in 2006 and then to Professor in the year 2009. He superannuated on 31st December 2018.

He has more than 31 years of teaching and 24 years of research experience, and has guided 10 PhD, 5 MPhil and 15 MPharm scholars. He has had the credit of establishing Synthetic Organic and Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory at the Chemistry Department with in silico Drug Design facilities. He served as the Head, Department of Chemistry, from 1st July 2014 to 30th June 2017. He also held positions including Director Institute for University Industry and Society Partnership, Coordinator UGC (SAP): DRS-II, Deputy-Coordinator IPR-Cell and Member IQAC at the university. Dr. Raman has presented his research work at international conferences held at Chicago and Florida, US; Kyoto, Japan; IISc Bangalore, CDRI Lucknow and Delhi University.

He collaborated with IndSwift labs Ltd. R&D Centre, Mohali, on ISLL-Punjabi University: Collaborative Research “Design Synthesis and Computational Validation of Medicinally Significant New Chemical Entities (NCEs)”.

He has 2 patents (published), 21 international research papers in the relevant areas and is currently involved in the design synthesis and computational validation of Selective Peroxisome Proliferator Activating Receptorgamma Modulators (SPPARγMs) in the Management of Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome.
